Starting School in Year R
What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth until the end of the Reception year at school.
Whilst your child is in Reception they will work towards the early learning goals.
Most children are expected to achieve the early learning goals by the end of EYFS.
Play underpins all development and learning for young children. Providing well-planned experiences based on children’s spontaneous play, both indoors and outdoors, is an important way in which practitioners support young children to learn with enjoyment and challenge.
The curriculum is delivered through a combination of whole class activities, adult led focussed activities and child initiated activities.

The government now require the children to undertake a baseline test at the beginning of Year R. We currently use Early Excellence, this is on trial for the year 2015/16 and then will become a statutory requirement by the year 2016/2017.
