Year 5/6 Boys’ Football

Every Wednesday evening, 17 boys take to the football pitch with Miss Shortland. They enjoy building upon their ball skills and playing as part of a team. A few weeks in to their first season of training, the boys took part in a tournament at Asfordby Amateurs against twelve other teams. They played exceptionally well and finished second in their group.

Year 3/4 Girls’ Football

During Tuesday lunch times, the year 3 and 4 girls have the opportunity to build upon their football skills with the expert help of Chloe Brown a FA registered coach. Throughout the sessions the girls focus on developing their social, physical, cognitive and emotional skills. They particularly love the reward of a stamp when showing development in these areas. After only a few sessions, the girls made their debut as a team in a tournament at Asfordby Amateurs. We were very proud of their achievements.

Year 3/4 Tag Rugby

We are very lucky to have the expertise of Mrs Beech to help train our year 3 and 4 tag rugby team. Many of the children who take part in this club have not had much exposure to rugby previously but they quickly learn the skills and techniques needed to play a successful game. Throughout the sessions we have seen some great defensive lines and skilful tries being scored.

Year 5/6 Tag Rugby

As well as having a recently formed year 3 and 4 tag rugby team we are still delighted that our year 5 and 6 rugby team is going strong. Mr Cant delivers weekly lunchtime sessions for the children - come rain or shine. In these sessions they build up expertise and confidence in all areas of a rugby game. Later in the year, the team will take part in an area competition which last year proved very successful with Swallowdale taking the trophy.

Year 3/4 Secret Sports

Secret Sports at Swallowdale is an exciting new after school club aimed at Year 3 and Year 4 children. Every Tuesday, the children are able to take part in a different sporting activity but no-one knows which sport it will be until the club begins. The aim is to encourage children to take part in a range of activities they might not otherwise feel confident to try, with specialist coaches supervising their participation.  Each week, as the children change into their P.E. kits, they can be heard speculating with eager enthusiasm about what might be happening.

Year 5/6 Table Tennis

Friday after school, the hall is a scene of flying balls as the children playing table tennis work hard to improve their speed and accuracy of play. The children are looking forward to taking part in their first competition this term and we know they will represent Swallowdale with enthusiasm and team spirit.

Year 5/6 Netball

The year 5 and 6 netballers have been training hard after school on Tuesdays. They have developed a good understanding of the game and how to work together successfully. There has been such an improvement in their court play and ability to score. We are looking forward to matches and tournaments next year.
