Red Nose Day at Swallowdale

To show our support for Comic Relief, Swallowdale held a non-uniform - Wear Red for Red Nose Day.  Children watched the official videos created for primary schools which highlight the problems and difficulties some people face on a daily basis and how the money raised is used to help others. In addition, we had some fun designing our own red noses and had a name the nose challenge. School staff participated in the Bake –a –Million Challenge which saw our staff room full of delicious cakes! Again, we were amazed by the willingness of our children and parents who demonstrated their support by buying noses and sending in donations – together we have raised over £500.

World Book Day 2017

Swallowdale became a hive of book related activity today. This began with a Where’s Wally? hunt – children were extremely determined to find him even in the trickiest of places.  Across the school, all of the children and teachers read, listened to stories and worked together.  During the classroom activities, collages and puppets were made, origami dogs were created, puzzles were solved and faces smiled. Overall, stories were brought to life!

Swallowdale raise £2031 for the NSPCC

The NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme recently visited our school to make sure our pupils have the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse. This is a nationwide programme for every primary-school-aged child in the UK.

With the help of their friendly mascot Buddy, they presented an assembly to the children in our school with follow up workshops for the older children.

Following this visit, children had the opportunity to take part in a voluntary fundraising event by participating in a ‘Buddy’s Workout’. For some of the children this involved a school dance-a-thon and others completed a challenging circuit course. All of the children enjoyed the experience and at the same time raised a phenomenal sum of money for the NSPCC’s vital work - helping keep even more children safe.

Children are now proudly wearing their ‘Buddy Badges’ around school.

A huge thank you to all Swallowdale families who have supported this campaign with us.
