War Time Cooking

As part of our World War 2 topic we have been learning about the war effort in Britain. We found out how people would grow their own food, how food was rationed and the types of foods people would have eaten during the war. We then used recipes in class to create a war time meal of potato scones, marmite and lettuce and carrot and chutney sandwiches and a cabbage and raisin salad. 

 

War Time Recipe

Potato Scones – makes 14 pieces

450g floury potatoes (peeled and cooked)

Pinch of salt

Butter/ Margarine 60g

Flour 115g

Baking powder 1tsp

Method

1. Mash the potatoes; add salt and butter and flour to give a stiff mixture.

2. Turn out onto floured surface, knead lightly and roll out to a thickness of 1cm (1/2inch).

3. Cut into triangles, place on a baking sheet and cook in a hot oven for 15 minutes.

4. Serve hot
