Mrs Ward

I am Mrs Ward and I am Deputy Head here at Swallowdale. I trained at Leicester University and have been teaching since 2000. I have taught Year 1, 3, 5 and 6 in this time and have also found the time to have 2 gorgeous children! I really enjoy teaching all subjects but particularly enjoy literacy, science and art. In my spare time I sing in a choir which I love! I have a mad dog called Fern, who walks me on frequent occasions and my remaining time is spent with my lovely family.

Mrs Brown

I'm Mrs Brown and I am currently acting deputy head.  After working for Barclays bank for 15 years, I decided I was indeed ready for a change of career.  I embarked on a part time degree course at Northampton University and four years later gained a Ba (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies.  During this time I worked as a Learning Support Assistant, here at Swallowdale, where I gained invaluable experience.  I left Swallowdale in 2006 to complete my teacher training at Leicester University and then was lucky enough to come back here in 2007 for my first teaching position.  I am passionate about maths teaching and learning and as part of my maths coordinator role I work for the East Midlands South Maths Hub, one day a week, supporting our school and other schools with maths teaching for mastery. Any spare time that I do have, involves visiting my twin daughters who are at university and playing with our gorgeous labradoodle puppy!

Miss Fudge

Hello! I am Miss Fudge and I teach Class 1 in Reception. I work with Miss Taylor, Mrs Egner and Mrs Baker.  I began teaching at Swallowdale in 2012, after gaining a BA HONS degree in Primary Education at York St John University. I love studying so much that I am currently working towards gaining my Masters Degree in Childhood Studies and Early Years, which is with Leeds Beckett University. As well as working with four and five year olds, I share the whole-school responsibility for ICT with Miss Thompson. We enjoy finding new ways for the children to learn using technology and we are strong supporters of safety on the internet. We ensure that we adhere to our recently awarded E-Safety badge. As well as teaching, I really enjoy spending time horse-riding and listening to a range of different types of music. 

Miss Taylor

My name is Miss Taylor and I work with Miss Fudge, Mrs Egner and Mrs Baker in Early Years Foundation Stage. (EYFS).My whole school responsibilities are EYFS coordinator and phonics.I trained as a teacher at Northampton University achieving a BA Hons in my teaching degree. I have worked at Swallowdale since 2005 and have spent most of my years here in EYFS. I have also had the pleasure of teaching in Year 1 and Year 2.I love working at Swallowdale and all the lovely children and staff who work here too. I really think I have the best job in the world..

Mrs Jansen

I am Mrs Jansen and I teach in Year 1 with Miss Cross and Mrs Bull. I have worked at Swallowdale for many years, mainly in Key Stage 1 and the EYFS. I have been a Governor for the last two years and am passionate about the future success of our lovely school. I have two children who are now both at university but I have a gorgeous little cockapoo called ‘Herbie’ to keep me busy instead!

Miss Cross

I’m Miss Cross and I work in Year 1 with Mrs Jansen and Mrs Bull. I am also the schools art coordinator. I studied at the University of Derby gaining a BEd. I was lucky enough to start here at Swallowdale in 2015. I am passionate about outdoor learning and currently training to be a level 3 forest school practitioner. I am looking forward to implementing this in school.  In my spare time I love going on holidays, swimming and eating fizzy sweets!  

Mrs Partridge

My name is Mrs Partridge and I work in year 2 with Miss Charles and Mrs Poolan. My curriculum responsibilities involve leading Geography throughout the school as well as leading English with Mrs Edwards. I have just completed my first year of study for a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary English at Northampton University. I am responsible for Young Voices which involves teaching a choir of around 70 children a number of pre-selected songs. Once all the songs have been learned we perform with 8000 other children at the Genting arena in Birmingham. As well as this I run the school’s Eco council and am currently working on raising funds for an outdoor learning area.

Miss Charles

My name is Miss Charles; I work in Year 2 with Mrs Partridge and Mrs Poolan. I am the science co-ordinator in school and also run a multi-skills after school club for Year 2’s. I have taught at Swallowdale school for 14 years and before that I worked at a school in Peterborough. In my spare time I love spending time with my daughter and walking the dog.  We spend a lot of time visiting parks, walking in the Peak District and swimming. 

Miss Green

I am Miss Green and I teach in Year 3 with Miss Hopkins. I am responsible for Modern Foreign Languages at Swallowdale. I gained a degree in Psychology at Leicester University before completing my PGCE there in 2015. I was thrilled to secure my first teaching post here in 2016 where I had fantastic support during my first year of teaching. In my spare time I enjoy getting stuck into a good book and visiting my friends and family.

Miss Hopkins

I am Miss Hopkins and I work in Year 3 with Miss Green and Mrs Buckle. I studied at Plymouth University and gained my Bachelor of Education degree, specialising in Physical Education. I have experience of working with children in a range of different schools and am so excited to have secured my first teaching post at Swallowdale. In my spare time, I love to play netball, dance, paint, read a good book and watch Strictly Come Dancing!

Mrs Glasgow

I am Mrs Glasgow and I work in Year 4 with Miss Thompson. This year I am responsible for PSHE at Swallowdale, I have enjoyed learning about philosophy for children and mindfulness for this subject. I studied at Oxford Brookes University where I gained my PGCE. I taught for five years in Buckinghamshire before moving to Leicestershire in 2016. I was then able to work in many schools during my time as a supply teacher. I was fortunate enough to gain my teaching post here at Swallowdale in 2017. In my spare time I love to travel, cook, go to the cinema and practice yoga. 

Miss Thompson

I am Miss Thompson and I am responsible for ICT with Miss Fudge. I teach in Year 4 with Mrs Glasgow. I studied Primary Education at Bedford University and taught in other Leicestershire schools before joining Swallowdale in 2016. I enjoy taking part in lots of different sports, particularly cycling, running with my dog Monty and playing netball. In my spare time, I also like trying out new recipes and getting stuck into a good book.

Miss Shaw

I am Miss Shaw and I work in Year 5 with Mrs Walters. I love all things R.E. and am currently responsible for the subject. I trained at Leicester University and began my teaching career in a school in Leicestershire, then moved to Swallowdale in 2014. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling and have been to South America, North America, Australasia and Asia in my quest for adventure. I also like nothing more than spending time with family, as well as singing, especially around my classroom! Although, the children in my class are not always impressed with my efforts!

Mrs Walters

I am Mrs Walters, I teach in Year 5 with Miss Shaw and I am responsible for History at Swallowdale.  I studied for an LLB Law degree at Nottingham Trent University before completing my Primary PGCE.  I secured my first teaching post here at Swallowdale in 2013 where I started in Year 3.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, going to concerts and walking my crazy Yorkshire Terrier called Poppy!

Mrs Edwards

Hello, I am Mrs Edwards and I teach Year 6 with Miss Shortland. I am also Assistant Head here at Swallowdale, have responsibility for English in our school and I train the school netball team too. When I’m not teaching, I love to read books, walk as far as I can with my mischievous dog Gibson and I love trying new challenges. One of the most exciting challenges was completing my training with the British Parachute School and taking part in a solo parachute jump. 

Miss Shortland

I am Miss Shortland, I teach in Year 6 with Mrs Edwards. I have responsibility for PE at Swallowdale and enjoy organising lots of different sporting activities for the children to take part in. One of my own greatest sporting achievements was completing the London marathon. My other hobbies include playing the flute and travelling to different countries. Before completing my degree, I took a gap year travelling around Africa, experiencing a different culture. 

Mrs Gordon

I am Mrs Gordon and I have been teaching at Swallowdale for over 20 years. I work mainly in Year 6, supporting children with their learning but feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with so many children across both key stages. I have curriculum responsibility for music and organise the provision of music tuition in our school, working closely with our visiting peripatetic teachers. I also lead our various music ensembles. In my spare time I play clarinet with Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra and also play the piano, saxophone and recorder. I have 3 boys and enjoy visiting my oldest son at university and listening to my youngest son perform with The National Children’s Orchestra.
